BiMi is detachable eyewear designed for users often facing the problem of breaking their eyewear accidentally. By using a strong magnet to joint the spectacle legs to the frame, reduce the breaking of spectacle legs when dropping, bending or sitting on your eyewear.

Project Brief

Product design: Eyewear design

Existing Problem

The hinges of spectacles are easy to break after long time usage, sometimes it is damage by accidents such as sitting on it or drop on the floor. It is costly to change the spectacles' frame frequently. Thus some users choose to tape the spectacles leg to the frame which usually left it an unaesthetic look.

Design Concept

To solve the issue of breaking spectacle legs at the hinge, we should change the standard way of joining the hinge by screws. Thus, the magnet is used to makes the hinge flexible and easy to detach and attach the legs and frame.

Prototyping

Different size of magnets is tested with 3d printed spectacles, to make sure the magnet is strong enough to hold the spectacle legs to the frame and could hold it in place when the user is wearing it.
